In the hearts of two men,

and the actors playing them

by Kaizaad Kotwal

Columbus-Marking its fourth trip to the Wexner Center, the Canadian theater ensemble da da kamera brings its Obie-award winning play In On It to the center's Performance Space November 6-9. Known for its strong storytelling and inventive stagework, da da kamera's previous Columbus shows have included Here Lies Henry and Monster.

Written and directed by Daniel MacIvor, who also portrays one of the two deeply intertwined protagonists alongside Darren O'Donnell, In On It takes on the stage cliché of the play-within-aplay with a series of deft pivots. The pair's portrayal of two actors rehearsing a play about two guys— ex-lovers who tell a story about a pair of broken marriages-is a seamless illustration of the evershifting dynamics of power in interpersonal relationships.

Founded in 1986 by Daniel MacIvor as a production company for new theater, da da kamera (Russian for "yes, yes to the small room") is considered to be among the most important innovators from Canada's theater

Daniel Maclvor and Darren O'Donnell

The show weaves together three separate yet interconnected stories: the poignant tale of a man dying of a terminal disease compounded by the disintegration of his marriage and family; the touching tale of two gay men trying to make their relationship work, and the post-modern, metatheatrical aspect of two actors discussing how best to act out this play. Each story adds resonance and meaning to the others.

During the course of its run, In On It has been the recipient of several awards, including the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation's Award for Outstanding New Theater, the Obie Award and the English Theatre Critics Award.

scene. Since the group launched itself, it has created more than a dozen original productions, several of which have been showered with Chalmers nominations, comparable to the Tony Awards.

Show times are Thursday-Sunday, November 6-8 at 8 pm, November 9 at 3 and 7 pm in the Wexner Center Performance Space, 1871 N. High St. Tickets prices are $16 general public, $13 Wexner Center members, $10 Ohio State students. Call 614292-3535 or visit www.wexarts.org for tickets.
